The
crosses, or quadruplicities, or modes, as they have
been called, are a division of the zodiac wheel into
3 groups: Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable. Each sign belongs
to one of these groups. For example Aries is Cardinal,
Taurus is Fixed and Gemini is Mutable, and so on around
the wheel. In this article, you will dicover what
makes the Cardinal signs tick, and hopefully in the
process, you will gain a better understanding of those
near and dear to you.
The
Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn)

Mutable Energies by Pauline Edward, Published by Llewellyn,

"I
say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the
difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still
have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American
dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will
rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed:
We hold these truths to be self?evident: that all
men are created equal . . . " Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr.
The
cardinal signs are the dreamers of the zodiac. Okay,
let me explain
I can hear the Capricorns grumbling
already and the Librans warming up for an animated
debate and Cancers feeling unjustly disparaged and
Aries
well
they've already dashed on to
the next paragraph.
Dreams
do not come only in the impossible variety, they come
in all sizes and shapes. In fact, dreaming is a very
healthy and desirable activity that is part of the
sometimes complex process in which we engage in order
to define and achieve our life goals. Our dreams are
often all that sustain us through the most trying
times. It is an activity that is naturally practiced
by young children until they are taught to grow up,
to become reasonable and practical and to deal with
issues at hand. There is a youthful hopefulness in
those grownups who have managed to maintain some of
this childhood ability to dream. As we shall see,
dreams will vary greatly in nature and also in realization
potential, from the possible to the impossible. An
impracticable dream is likely to remain in the realm
of fantasy, an escape from reality, and will rarely
lead to a significant accomplishment, whereas a realistic
dream will nurture the spirit and provide hope and
inspiration in times of difficulty and in the face
of obstacles, these dreams become the stuff on which
personal success is built.
When I encounter clients who are having difficulty
finding a life direction, I ask them to try to recall
what they dreamed of doing when they were young. They
may stammer, blush, become self-conscious and even
embarrassed as I wait for them to reveal their long-buried,
sometimes secret dreams. More often then not, they
will remember their dream, and when they do, their
eyes light up as though their souls had just received
a wake up call. This cardinal spark is that part of
the force that drives us to move forward in life to
complete the search for Self, so that we may resolve
our soul's quest in this lifetime. To dream is a vital
function of becoming, an essential ingredient of being.
Without the ability to dream, Mount Everest would
not have been climbed , man would not have landed
on the Moon, Kekulé would not have discovered
the benzene ring (Okay, so that happened in an actual
dream!), airplanes would never have gotten off the
ground, in fact, without vision, mankind would have
taken far fewer steps forward. Martin Luther King's
dream was based on his vision for mankind, a vision
which reflected the very real need for all human beings
to have equal rights, and with his Sun in the cardinal
sign of Capricorn, he had the courage and personal
power to stand tall and high and to express his convictions
for all to hear.
Specialists today stress the importance of being able
to reactivate the often lost, forgotten, buried, or
even suppressed childhood ability to dream. Workshops
abound where we can learn to envision a better life,
to create new mental pictures for ourselves, to visualize
the life we want to live. Lectures, tapes and videos
by motivational speakers continue to be popular. Having
a vision to guide us through life is an essential
component of the development of a satisfactory and
fulfilling life experience. But, a person does not
have to be a visionary to be successful in life, one
only has to be able to look beyond current circumstances.
This is in essence what the cardinal cross provides,
the ability to reach out, to see beyond that which
is here now. Cardinal dreams are often born of instinct,
feeling and passion; they can stem from feelings of
pain, loss, grief or desperation. They are generally
not based on a process, whether extensive or brief,
of logic and reason, although they can be stimulated
by such a process when the process is driven by a
need.

the Cardinal signs represent qualities that make for
an exciting life experience. We all have something
