Forecasting Burnouts: Curbing Employee Turnover with
the help of astrology and numerology cycles
Over
the years, countless individuals have sat across my
desk and shared their stories. Two main areas of concern
stand out: work and marriage. As HR directors, you know
well that the two are interrelated, and that if things
are not going well in one, then chances are that the
other is likely to suffer.
In
the past, it was sufficient for companies to measure
employee productivity and performance against statistically
or mechanically established targets and goals. Today's
company heads and HR directors are faced with the challenge
of having to tend to the far less tangible and less
obvious needs of their employees, from emotional intelligence
to work-life wellness and job satisfaction. And to reinforce
this challenge, employees are growing to expect that
these needs be met by their employers.
I
have seen many employees in consultation who have suffered
burnout and have taken leave from their jobs. The reason
these people give for their burnout is often a vague
description of a profound discontent. Usually, By the
time they come for a consultation, several months, even
years have elapsed since they were last happily and
gainfully employed.
When
I look at their trends and cycles (as shown in their
birth charts), it becomes immediately clear to me that
had they consulted earlier, we could have identified
the potentially stressful period and considered some
options well before the situation got out of hand. Planetary
trainsits and cycles are clear indicators of upcoming
trends. With this knowledge, the individual can plan
and take appropriate measures, much like we do as the
seasons change.
When fall comes, we clean up the garden, change the
tires on the car, get an oil change, basically get ready
for winter. Just like when fall comes, we don't give
up on our garden, we just lay it to rest for the winter
season, nor do we give up driving, we put on snow tires,
an employee does not have to quit his/her job just because
they are experiencing undue stress. Instead, an employee
who is facing a particularly challenging series of transits
can request a 3-day or 4-day workweek, or a change of
level of responsibility, or try a different shift, for
the period of the transits. These highly stressful periods
tend to last on average, about a year, sometimes more,
sometimes a bit less.
The
question you need to ask is: Can
you afford to lose a key employee, one who is educated
and trained with years of experience in your company?
Given
the important costs associated with training key employees,
these costs include the stress of integrating a new
member in the work environment, the answer to that question
is no doubt a resounding "no".
Is
it possible to identify those times when a person is
likely to experience a burnout? Absolutely! It is possible
to identify many other types of periods as well, such
as a readiness for change, for taking on additional
responsibility, for growth and learning. It is also
possible to identify times of relationship stress. Here
again, if a person gets help in the appropriate time
and attends to their marriage issues, they may avoid
the trauma and devastation of divorce.
The
remaining question is: can you afford to not use our
